Research
- A few microseconds after the Big Bang, our universe was filled with a new state of matter called Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP). Surprisingly, one can produce QGP under laboratory conditions in heavy ion collisions at very high energies in RHIC at BNL, New York and LHC at CERN, Geneva. My research is focussed on deriving theoretically the properties of QGP using Lattice Quantum ChromoDynamics (QCD) techniques and in exploring the experimental signals of QGP using hard probes and perturbative QCD. The QCD phase diagram in the temperature-baryon density plane is being actively explored using the same theoretical and experimental tools. I have made important contributions to the research on QCD critical point, and aim to continue doing so. I am also interested in, and have worked on, connections with cosmology and some proposed new theories beyond the standard model.
